QUALS

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 20, 2026

Quals ("the app") is built privacy-first. This policy explains what information exists, where it lives, and what we do and do not collect. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.

Data you enter stays on your device

Swimmer names, dates of birth, swim times, and history that you type into the app are stored locally on your device only. The app has no user accounts, and this information is never sent to us or held on any server. There is one optional feature, photo import, that sends an image you choose off your device so the times on it can be read. It is described in the next section. Apart from that feature, the app does not transmit swimmer information anywhere.

Photo import (optional)

The paid tiers include an optional photo-import feature for reading times from a picture, both a swimmer's results page and a club record board. It runs only when you choose to use it. If you never use photo import, no image ever leaves your device.

When you do use it, the app sends the image you selected to a text-extraction service so the times can be read back into the app. That image may contain swimmer names, race times, dates, and meet names shown on the page or board you photographed. What comes back is the extracted times and details as text, which you review and confirm before anything is saved.

How the image is handled: it is sent to a key-holding proxy operated by Hammond Concepts Inc. and hosted on Cloudflare Workers, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to perform the extraction. The proxy exists so that no processing key is stored inside the app. The image is used only to extract the times you asked for. It is not used to advertise to you or to build a profile of you or your swimmers. Anthropic processes the image under its own privacy terms, available at anthropic.com/legal/privacy. The app shows you a consent prompt describing this before the first time an image is sent.

No tracking, no ads

The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics SDKs, and no trackers. We do not build profiles of you or your swimmers.

Backups

The backup and restore feature creates a file under your control. Where you store or send that file (iCloud, email, AirDrop) is your choice, and that file is governed by the policies of the service you choose. The backup file is not encrypted and contains swimmer names and times in plain text, so keep it private and share it only with people you trust.

Website waitlist

If you join the launch waitlist on our website, we collect the name (optional) and email address you provide, stored via our hosting provider (Netlify) form handling, and use it only to send launch and product updates for Quals. You can unsubscribe at any time and we will delete your address on request.

In-app feedback

If you choose to send feedback from inside the app, it opens your device's email app with a pre-filled message. The message includes the feedback category, the app version, and the standards data version, plus anything you type. Your name and email are optional and used only if you want a reply. Because feedback is sent from your own email app, you control what is sent, and we receive only the email you send. We use it solely to support and improve the app.

Purchases and validation

Payments are processed entirely by Apple; we never see your name, payment details, or Apple Account. To unlock features you have purchased, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-validation service, which processes your App Store receipt and a randomly generated anonymous identifier that is not linked to your real identity.

Children

The app is intended for use by parents, guardians, and coaches. Swimmer information entered into the app remains on the device of the adult who entered it, as described above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated and material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
